This ensures contributors can see when something forces the
editor to redraw constantly.
The existing boolean `true` value will be casted to `1` in the setting,
so it'll switch to Enabled automatically if the setting was previously
enabled.
The editor setting makes it possible to tweak V-Sync status
independently of the project setting.
Use cases:
- Decrease input lag and increase editor responsiveness when editing
a project that has V-Sync enabled.
- Avoid tearing when editing a project that has V-Sync disabled.
This is more explicit as for why this functionality isn't available
depending on editor settings and current platform.
This also exposes a `EditorInterface.is_multi_window_enabled()` method
so that editor plugins can easily query whether the editor is able and
expected to create multiple windows.
This change introduces a new theme configuration struct to be
passed to the aforementioned routines to better control reuse
of styles and definitions in the generator.
Everything not passed and not explicitly shared is scoped so it
is not automatically accessible throughout the routine. This
should ensure that the decision to share styles is a conscious one.
In the future we will try to reduce the number of unique definitions
and share most of it. This PR is a stepping stone on this path.
This also puts the effort into separating redefinitions of
default theme items vs custom types introduced only by the editor.
In a few cases where editor-specific definitions need to reference
default definitions we simply fetch them from the theme. It's not
ideal and hides the dependency a bit, but hopefully these cases
will be abstracted properly in due time.
This change introduces a new EditorThemeManager class
to abstract theme generatio and its subroutines.
Logic related to EditorTheme, EditorColorMap, and editor
icons has been extracted into their respective files with
includes cleaned up.
All related files have been moved to a separate folder to
better scope them in the project. This includes relevant
generated files as well.
This intends to be the correct way to handle non-child windows becoming covered by the current window when becoming focused.
Enabling this property on select windows, they will become transient to the currently focused one when becoming visible.
This deprecates the "unparent_when_invisible" function introduced by #76025.
This prevents visual discrepancies between desktop and mobile platforms
after switching rendering methods using this dropdown.
The restart dialog now displays which rendering methods will be used,
and the dropdown tooltip also lists caveats related to specific platforms.
This PR adds a new "--install-android-build-template" command-line option which causes the android build template to be installed before exporting the project.
- Add contexts to give a better sense of benchmarked areas.
- Add missing benchmarks and adjust some begin/end points.
- Clean up names.
- Improve Android's internal benchmarks in a similar manner.

This removes the immediate confirmation dialog and insteads prints the
message to the editor log (and it also appears as a toast). The immediate dialog
is a devil's plaything, and it cannot be used in this scenario (if it can be used
anywhere at all). The condition that triggers the SUT can happen during any
attempt by the rendering server to read a mesh. This means it will conflict
with a number of editor processes, like loading, importing, preview
generation, export, CLI mode, etc.
So while this is less on the nose as far as informing users goes, it's also
our best option to use the log and the toaster.
This defers the update to a fresh restart of the editor (to ensure we aren't mid way through loading scenes anymore.
It also ensures that the popup can't be used by multiple threads at once

- EditorNode has excessive and pointless checks for Input singleton.
- EditorNode initialization order is a bit awkward.
- OpenXR binds a method that doesn't need that (for call deferred).
- VideoStream has a formatting error.
- Enabling newly created addons can show a warning dialog, doing so before hiding the `ProjectSettingsEditor` dialog causes rendering glitches.
- Remove unused `PuginConfigDialog` in `EditorNode`. The one actually being used is an instance in `EditorPluginSettings`.
When creating a new scene, the scene tab will actually switch to the newly created one.
Also worth noting that switching scene tabs saves state (by `save_edited_scene_state`).
When trying New Scene again, the previously empty scene tab will be removed.
So the correct logic is: switch the tab save state first, and then remove the previous
empty scene tab. To prevent `current_edited_scene` from being incorrect when saving state.
This commit adds a new View submenu that allows switching
between the project theme (default), the editor theme, and
the default theme. The last selected option is stored per
project and is restored when reloading the project.
This change defines additional theme contexts for editor
branches to prevent theme leaking between the default
theme, the project theme, and the editor theme.
- Both editor window and EditorNode define an editor-specific
context with the editor theme and the default theme.
- The 2D viewport defines a project-specific context with
the project theme and the default theme.
- Theme editor preview tabs define the default-only context
with the default theme.
Additionally, the default theme context now only includes
the project theme for running projects (both export and debug).
This prevents the project theme from leaking into the editor.
This commit also does a little clean up on the theming aspects
of the EditorNode.
This should result in some noticeable performance improvements,
aside from fixing bugs due to conflicts in logic.
This also simplifies some related code identified while debugging.
This is needed to allow 2D to fully make use of 3D effects (e.g. glow), and can be used to substantially improve quality of 2D rendering at the cost of performance
Additionally, the 2D rendering pipeline is done in linear space (we skip linear_to_srgb conversion in 3D tonemapping) so the entire Viewport can be kept linear.
This is necessary for proper HDR screen support in the future.
The previous packaging format for Godot Android plugins consisted of the plugin's `gdap` config file accompanied by binaries defined in the `gdap` file.
This format is now deprecated (starting with Godot 4.2), and instead Godot Android plugins are now packaged as `EditorExportPlugin` plugins.
The `EditorExportPlugin` class has been updated with the following methods to provide the necessary set of functionality:
- `_supports_platform`: returns true if the plugin supports the given platform
- `_get_android_dependencies`: retrieve the set of android dependencies (e.g: `org.godot.example:my-plugin:0.0.0`) provided by the plugin
- `_get_android_dependencies_maven_repos`: retrieve the urls of the maven repos for the provided android dependencies
- `_get_android_libraries`: retrieve the local paths of the android libraries (AAR files) provided by the plugin
- `_get_android_manifest_activity_element_contents`: update the contents of the `<activity>` element in the generated Android manifest
- `_get_android_manifest_application_element_contents`: update the contents of the `<application>` element in the generated Android manifest
- `_get_android_manifest_element_contents`: update the contents of the `<manifest>` element in the generated Android manifest
Set the properties of the resource's proxy instead of setting the resource's
properties directly. (For action "Set ...")
Update the path of the edited scene when saving the scene. (For action "Add
atlas source")

Move the benchmarking measuring methods from `Engine` to `OS` to allow for platform specific overrides (e.g: can be used to hook into platform specific benchmarking and tracing capabilities).
* Node processing works on the concept of process groups.

* Groups can be ordered.
* Process priority is now present for physics.
This is the first steps towards implementing https://github.com/godotengine/godot-proposals/issues/6424.
No threading or thread guards exist yet in most of the scene code other than Node. That will have to be added later.
When enabled, this scales the editor icons to improve usability on touchscreen devices.
In addition this commit fixes touch detection for the collision_shape_2d_editor_plugin so it scales with the icons size.

The same effect which was desired here can just be done with `set_item_text(...)`, which is what this PR does. It removes the need to constantly update the shortcut name when the scene menu is opened.
`const` is used on all methods, even when they cause modification of the server. This reworks the methods of the server to only use `const` on method that don't change the state of the server.
As many open source projects have started doing it, we're removing the
current year from the copyright notice, so that we don't need to bump
it every year.
It seems like only the first year of publication is technically
relevant for copyright notices, and even that seems to be something
that many companies stopped listing altogether (in a version controlled
codebase, the commits are a much better source of date of publication
than a hardcoded copyright statement).
We also now list Godot Engine contributors first as we're collectively
the current maintainers of the project, and we clarify that the
"exclusive" copyright of the co-founders covers the timespan before
opensourcing (their further contributions are included as part of Godot
Engine contributors).
Also fixed "cf." Frenchism - it's meant as "refer to / see".
* If FBX files are found, a dialog will pop up asking to configure FBX2glTF.
* Dialog can also be accessed by going Editor -> Configure FBX Import.

DisplayServer::screen_is_touchscreen will likely never utilize its
parameter p_screen.
This PR replaces this function by DisplayServer::is_touchscreen_available()
with the same functionality.
This solves the problem, that a SubViewport was used for determining
the screen, which resulted in error messages.
Newly introduced docks, that are not apparent in old projects should
be positioned after the ones in the project-config-file.
This way it seems to be less irritating.
- add the history dock to the default editor layout, so when a user does Editor -> Editor Layout -> Default the history dock will no longer disappear
- change the enter tree notification to a ready notification to prevent the history dock from trying to connect 'on_history_changed' signal everytime the dock is moved in the editor layout

Also renamed the old `get_selected_path` to `get_selected_directory` to
better match the already existing get_current_path function.
Now splitted into two classes:
- EditorDebuggerPlugin (RefCounted).
- EditorDebuggerSession (abstract).
This allows the EditorPlugin to be in control of the debugger plugin
lifecycle, be notified when sessions are created, and customize each of
them independently.
We should slowly transition the various profilers and captures in
ScriptEditorDebugger to their own plugins, and decouple
ScriptEditorDebugger from it's UI part (making it the "real"
EditorDebuggerSession potentially dropping the wrappers).

`get_index` counts internal children by default but `move_child` ignores them therefore `move_child` had no effect.
The call to `set_current_tab` is not needed anymore in Godot 4 since the current tab will change when calling `move_child`.
The position (left/right) of the Cancel and OK buttons in AcceptDialog
are DisplayServer specific, as Windows uses OK/Cancel and macOS uses Cancel/OK.
Linux/X11 currently uses the macOS convention which is also the GTK+/GNOME one,
though it's not consistent with Qt/KDE applications which follow the Windows
convention.
Since that can't satisfy everyone, it's best if it's configurable also for the
editor (it's already configurable for the project).
Fixes#59379.

Adds an event flag to automatically remap `Command` <-> `Control` (cannot be set alongside `Control` or `Meta`).

EditorExportPlugin adds a set of callbacks to allow customizing scenes, resources or subresources in all files exported:
* Can take scene files, resource files and subresources in all of them.
* Uses a cache for the converted files if nothing changes, so this work only happens if a file is modified.
* Uses hashing to differentiate export configuration caches.
* Removed the previous conversion code to binary, as this one uses existing stuff.
This API is useful in several scenarios:
* Needed by the "server" export platform to get rid of textures, meshes, audio, etc.
* Needed by text to binary converters.
* Needed by eventual optimizations such as shader precompiling on export, mesh merging and optimization, etc.
This is a draft, feedback is very welcome.
This allows light sources to be specified in physical light units in addition to the regular energy multiplier. In order to avoid loss of precision at high values, brightness values are premultiplied by an exposure normalization value.
In support of Physical Light Units this PR also renames CameraEffects to CameraAttributes.
The editor will now use the project path i.e. the place where the root of
the repo is supposed to be according to the user. This project path is
also sent into the plugin and so out-of-directory asset folders can also be
maintained this way.
Affects a lot of classes. Very thoroughly checked signal connections and deferred calls to this method, add_do_method/add_undo_method calls, and so on.
Also renames the internal `_update_callback()` to `_redraw_callback()` for consistency.
Just a few comments have also been changed to say "redraw".
In CPUParticles2D, there was a private variable with the same name. It has been renamed to `do_redraw`.
This adds support for benchmarking engine startup (and editor startup if used).
The goal is to use this in the benchmarking server to track improvements and changes to engine, editor, importer and scene loading startup times.
This behavior was inconsistent with other editor-only nodes such as
Position3D, Position2D and ReferenceRect. It also caused issues when
a script extended RootMotionView as it ceased to work when the project
was run.
Currently, with stay_in_script_editor_on_node_selected as On, inspector_only is forcibly set, and no editors from the node selected are displayed.
With this change, if the selected Node has a Main Editor, it's still not shown (the intended behaviour of the feature), but the sub-editors are shown, this correctly opens the AnimationPlayerEditor plugin and other sub-plugins.

In general this PR is a starting point for more contributors to improve and enhance this functionality.
`rendering/quality/shadows` is now `rendering/quality/positional_shadow`
to explicitly denote that the settings only affect positional light shadows,
not directional light shadows.
Shadow atlas settings now contain the word "atlas" for easier searching.
Soft shadow quality settings were renamed to contain the word "filter".
This makes the settings appear when searching for "filter" in the
project settings dialog, like in Godot 3.x.
Recording a movie can take a long time, so the user may not be
paying attention to the editor while leaving a movie rendering
in the background.
This also allows editor plugins to access the state of Movie Maker mode
within the editor (and set it).
Redo edited subresource (and resource) saving in a much more simplified way.
I think this should work (unless I am missing something) and be faster than what is there.
It should also supersede #55885.
I am not 100% entirely convinced that this approach works, but I think it should so please test.
This makes sure that:
1.) The title is always up-to-date with project settings
2.) The title always reflects the changes made in the editor by showing or hiding the '(*)'
* Ensures thread safety when resources are destroyed.
* Simplified API by always forcing `ResourceCache::get_ref`, which needs less hacks and is fully thread safe.

* Allows running the game in "movie writer" mode.
* It ensures entirely stable framerate, so your run can be saved stable and with proper sound (which is impossible if your CPU/GPU can't sustain doing this in real-time).
* If disabling vsync, it can save movies faster than the game is run, but if you want to control the interaction it can get difficult.
* Implements a simple, default MJPEG writer.
This new features has two main use cases, which have high demand:
* Saving game videos in high quality and ensuring the frame rate is *completely* stable, always.
* Using Godot as a tool to make movies and animations (which is ideal if you want interaction, or creating them procedurally. No other software is as good for this).
**Note**: This feature **IS NOT** for capturing real-time footage. Use something like OBS, SimpleScreenRecorder or FRAPS to achieve that, as they do a much better job at intercepting the compositor than Godot can probably do using Vulkan or OpenGL natively. If your game runs near real-time when capturing, you can still use this feature but it will play no sound (sound will be saved directly).
Usage:
$ godot --write-movie movie.avi [scene_file.tscn]

* Options for configuring video writing via GLOBAL_DEF
* UI Menu for launching with this mode from the editor.
* Add to list of command line options.

Before this fix the title was just updated when we make the first change in the project settings. Now we always update the window title as it may be changed in the meantime when a project setting is changed (e.g. the app name (application/config/name)).

Likely fixes many usability issues (please lend me a hand Bugsquad team to identify them).
GitHub doesn't allow CORS so we can't download assets from it.
There'd also be more work needed for the Asset Library plugin to be
usable in the Web editor even if that was supported.
* Map is unnecessary and inefficient in almost every case.
* Replaced by the new HashMap.
* Renamed Map to RBMap and Set to RBSet for cases that still make sense
(order matters) but use is discouraged.
There were very few cases where replacing by HashMap was undesired because
keeping the key order was intended.

These typedefs don't save much typing compared to the full `Ref<Resource>`
and `Ref<RefCounted>`, yet they sometimes introduce confusion among
new contributors.
Didn't commit all the changes where it wants to initialize a struct
with `{}`. Should be reviewed in a separate PR.
Option `IgnoreArrays` enabled for now to be conservative, can be
disabled to see if it proposes more useful changes.
Also fixed manually a handful of other missing initializations / moved
some from constructors.
This replaces the existing "chainlink" instance icon that was
used for external links. That icon is still used for scene instancing.

This is something I wanted to add for a long time. I made it now because @fire
requires it for importing GLTF2 files with embedded textures, but also this
will allow saving Godot scenes as standalone binary files that will run
in all platforms (because textures will load everywhere).
This is ideal when you want to distribute individual standalone assets online
in games that can be built from Godot scenes.
These set of changes focus primarily on getting the core logic and overall Godot Editor UI and functionality up and running natively on Android devices.
UI tweaks / cleanup / polish, as well configuration for Android specific functionality / restrictions will be addressed in follow-up PRs iteratively based on feedback.
